KATE and Gerry McCann, the parents of missing British toddler Madeleine McCann, have appeared in a documentary to mark one year since their daughter vanished from a Portuguese resort.

According to the Metro news website, cameras followed the McCanns all year as they raised awareness of their daughter’s disappearance.

In the ITV documentary, they speak about being made suspects by Portuguese police and the decision to come back to Britain without Madeleine.

ITV commissioned Mentorn Media to make the documentary marking the first anniversary of the four-year-old’s disappearance from the family’s apartment in Praia de Luz.

“Amid all of the controversy, what should be remembered is that a little girl is still missing and her family is trying its best to find her,” Steve Anderson, executive producer for Mentorn Media, told Metro.

“We have been with Kate and Gerry McCann as they have pushed for a better system across Europe to help stop child abduction.

“They are determined to do whatever they can to make sure that what happened to Madeleine doesn’t happen to another child.”

The McCanns have reportedly received no payment for the program, and ITV has donated £10,000 ($21,848) to the Find Madeleine fund.
